ALN Academy Hosts the 3rd East African Pre-Moot reception

The ALN Academy hosted the 3rd East African Pre-Moot reception at the ALN House in Nairobi. This event marked the launch of the pre-moot competition for East African teams in preparation for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot scheduled for March 2024. Africa in the Moot serves a collective of individuals and institutions, supporting African university students in arbitration, and enhancing teaching in international commercial law and arbitration.

During the reception, arbitration lawyers from Jones Day, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, and White & Case LLP presented the competition fact pattern and legal issues. Additionally, Honorable CJ Martha Koome, Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, delivered a virtual address and spoke on the need for a multi-door approach as one of the instruments of advancing people-centred justice. This gathering provided a unique opportunity for students to connect with prominent lawyers and arbitrators in Kenya, fostering a vibrant legal community and promoting legal education across the region.

At the ALN Academy, we remain committed to enhancing the skills of legal practitioners, students, and African governments. Through strong partnerships and initiatives like Africa in the Moot, we actively advance the rule of law, defend human rights, and promote sustainable development across the continent. Our dedication to Africa’s growth remains steadfast, and we continue to champion legal excellence and good governance in the pursuit of justice and progress.

We extend our gratitude to the organizers and attendees of this event and wish all participants the best of luck.
