This is the current state of affairs for those of us who like to wake up our brains with a cup of Joe in the morning. However, the price surge isn’t necessarily a bad thing—so far, shortages in Brazil and Vietnam have led to good returns for the East African coffee market. So, sip on that.
In other news, the situation in the DRC continues to raise eyebrows as the state of peace in the region has massive implications for the rule of law. Instead of a continental or cross-regional approach to the crisis, tensions are rising between heads of state in East Africa and the SADC region. For years, critics of this fine continent have lamented Africa’s failure to move beyond level-one processing of raw materials. The complaint? Too much money is spent refining raw materials abroad, only to repurchase them at a premium. Well, Senegal said purr to that, and we couldn’t be prouder of this incredible example of proactive governance.
