ALN Academy invites you to contribute to an upcoming anthology exploring the impact of security challenges on public financing and economic development in Africa.
Africa’s development is deeply affected by the complex relationship between security challenges and public financing. As governments across the continent address various security threats, funds are often diverted from socio-economic sectors like healthcare, education, and infrastructure, limiting growth and stability. Kenya, for example, faces mounting public outcry over increasing security expenditures in light of its recent Public Bill, which has intensified socio-economic strain. This scenario reflects broader trends across Africa, where security spending and public debt intersect, putting immense pressure on governance and economic progress. This collection aims to interrogate emerging and concerning trends and policies on how governments are balancing rising security demands with the need for socio-economic development.
We are seeking insightful, thought-provoking contributions that explore topics such as:
- The political economy of security expenditure and its effects on growth.
- Legal frameworks shaping the interplay between security and public finance.
- How insecurity disrupts infrastructure and trade, and what can be done to mitigate these impacts.
Submissions should be 2,500-4,000 words and adhere to the Chicago Turabian style, with graphs and visuals welcome.
Submission deadline: November 15, 2024
Publication date: Early December 2024
